This year, our Institute celebrates sixteen years of existence. Admittedly, this may seem like a relatively short period when compared with the long history of older institutions, such as those in Rome or Saint Louis. Nevertheless, these sixteen years are significant, as they have enabled our Institute to grow, evolve, and make considerable progress. This anniversary also offers us a valuable opportunity to reflect on our mission, our objectives, and the prospects that lie ahead.

It is in this spirit that we are pleased to welcome Father Simon Nsielenga, who is also actively engaged in the field of history. Having two historians within our Institute is undoubtedly a valuable asset. We hope that this collaboration will contribute to strengthening the quality and academic rigor of our research. Indeed, dialogue among scholars enables us to bring different perspectives together, critically examine sources, and deepen our understanding of historical events in all their complexity. Furthermore, the presence of several Jesuit historians within our Institute enhances its academic credibility and contributes to the better preservation, study, and appreciation of our historical heritage.

As we enter the month of November, traditionally dedicated to prayer for the faithful departed, we cannot fail to remember our fellow Jesuit, Father Fratern Massawe, SJ who passed away a few days ago. In this moment of sorrow and hope, we entrust his memory and his soul to the Lord. May the Lord welcome him into His presence, where he may dwell forever in His peace, light, and eternal beauty.
