October returns with its colours, its familiar rhythms and its special moments. For us as Christians, it is also a month placed under the sign of Mary, whom the Church invites us to contemplate and honour in a particular way, especially through the Rosary.
Mary accompanies us quietly. She does not seek the centre of the stage. Her gaze remains turned towards Jesus. She is the one who welcomes, listens, treasures events in her heart, and moves forward in trust, even when the path remains mysterious.
In a world where everything moves quickly, where we are constantly being called from one thing to another, and where we often seek immediate answers, Mary teaches us the patience of the heart. At the Annunciation, she does not have all the answers. She does not know everything that the future holds. Yet she welcomes God’s word and makes herself available: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.”
This spirit of attentive listening, remembrance and availability also invites us to look to Saint Ignatius. Mary holds a significant place in his life. His life, preserved through documents, testimonies and memories of the past, reminds us that what has been lived must be remembered and safeguarded so that it may continue to speak to the present.
As we preserve documents and historical memory, we do more than protect the past. We keep alive the stories, experiences and spiritual journeys that can illuminate our lives today.
May this October, with Mary on the way, be for each of us a time of grace, peace and renewal.
