Approximately every six years beginning from the last General Congregation, Father General shall convoke a meeting of all Provincials, in order to consider the state, the problems and the initiatives of the universal Society, as well as international and supra Provincial cooperation.
Fr Arturo Sosa, SJ – the Superior General of the Society of Jesus – has convened a Meeting of Major Superiors at the Jesuit Curia in Rome in October 2025. The meeting included every Major Superior of the worldwide Society of Jesus – totaling 78 Provincials, Presidents of Conferences, and Superiors of Regions. A complement of General Counselors, Secretaries and officials, and Fr General himself, bring the meeting total to 101 participants.
Their mission was as simple as it was comprehensive: “consider the state, the problems and the initiatives of the universal Society” (GC 34, Decree 23).
As the Major Superiors from each Conference met with each other, they brought their reflections back to the entire group, and to Fr General, to participate in a group discernment that will guide the course of the Society of Jesus in the coming years.
