Rev. Fr. Anthony Francis D’Souza, SJ, was born on 10 October 1935 and entered the Society of Jesus on 20 June 1955, beginning a lifelong journey of Jesuit formation, prayer, and faithful service to the Church. He was ordained a priest on 13 July 1968 and professed his Final Vows in the Society of Jesus on 15 August 1975.

For decades, Fr. D’Souza quietly dedicated himself to pastoral ministry and spiritual accompaniment, serving with humility, wisdom, and unwavering fidelity in various apostolates. His priestly ministry touched many lives through simple yet profound acts of presence, listening, and compassionate care.

From 1992 to 1996, he served as Father-in-Charge of the Holy Family Minor Basilica in Nairobi, faithfully guiding one of Kenya’s most prominent Catholic communities during an important period in its pastoral life. Later, from 2014 to 2022, he ministered as Assistant Parish Priest at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Kangemi, where he continued to accompany the faithful with kindness, spiritual depth, and pastoral dedication.

Fr. D’Souza is remembered by many Jesuit companions, parishioners, and friends as a priest who helped others find God in the ordinary moments of life. Through his simplicity, generosity, prayerfulness, and quiet dedication, he embodied the gentle depth of Ignatian spirituality. His life reflected a deep commitment to service, accompaniment, and care for God’s people.

He passed away on Sunday, 17 May 2026, at Coptic Mission Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, 22 May 2026, at Mwangaza Jesuit Spirituality Centre, followed by interment at the Jesuit Sacred Memorial Gardens within the same compound.

As the Society of Jesus, together with family, friends, parishioners, and the wider Christian community, mourns his passing, we also give thanks for the gift of his life and vocation. Fr. D’Souza leaves behind a legacy of faithful and selfless priestly service, marked not by prominence or acclaim, but by quiet fidelity to God and generous love for others.

May the Lord whom he served so faithfully grant him eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
