Yesterday evening, in the chapel of St Francis Borgia at the General Curia in Rome, Fr General Arturo Sosa officially opened the 3rd Meeting of Major Superiors (MMS). From every corner of the world, Jesuits have come to discuss, with their brothers, the challenges that their part of the Church faces. From conflict and extreme poverty, to education and health services, to spiritual support for those who feel lost or alone, to planning for the impacts of AI, to simple accompaniment, the 100 participants of the MMS will share their ministries and experiences as they spend the next week helping to craft a way forward for the Society of Jesus to best serve the Church and the faithful.

But before the business of the week, the Jesuits will begin as they have been trained to always begin: with prayer.

For the next two days, the delegates of the 3rd MMS will pray, reflect, and share faith with one another. Fr General will personally guide the retreat, giving the retreatants points for prayer and delivering the daily exhortation. Where Fr General guides the delegates is a matter for the Holy Spirit – but the field is fertile. With Pope Leo being so outspoken about the priorities of the Church, the world in seemingly endless turmoil, and with the Church itself at an opportune point of inflection, this retreat will make the Major Superiors ready to address the needs of the world, while staying focused on Christ and the charism of the Society of Jesus.

We will be sharing snippets from Fr General’s points on Jesuits.Global and our social media outlets. We invite you to pray along with us and to offer intentions for the delegates of the 3rd Meeting of Major Superiors.
