On 14th February 2024, as we observed Ash Wednesday which happened to fall on the same day as Valentine’s Day, Hekima University College (HUC) revealed important leadership changes and appointments, as conveyed by the Chair of the HUC Council, Mrs. Margaret Muhoro.

The university community begins the season of Lent with the anticipation of growth and positive transformation, guided by the newly appointed officials.

New Appointments

  • Sr. Dr. Opondo Jacinta Auma, FSSA – Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs: HUC welcomes Sr. Dr. Opondo Jacinta Auma as the new Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs. Her extensive experience and commitment to education are expected to contribute significantly to the academic development of the institution.
  • Rev. Dr. Stephen Eyeowa, SJ – Acting Dean of the Jesuit School of Theology: Rev. Dr. Stephen Eyeowa, SJ, will be assuming the role of Acting Dean of the Jesuit School of Theology starting from June 1, 2024. His leadership is anticipated to bring a positive impact to the school during this interim period.

Confirmations

  • Rev. Fr. Francis Anyanzu, SJ – Deputy Principal for Administration and Finance: Following the successful completion of the probation period, Rev. Fr. Francis Anyanzu SJ has been confirmed as the substantive Deputy Principal for Administration and Finance.
  • Rev. Dr. George Macharia, SJ – Registrar: The Council of HUC has confirmed Rev. Dr. George Macharia, SJ, as the substantive Registrar. His proven dedication and competence during the probation period have led to this significant appointment.

The university community expresses gratitude to these individuals for their generosity, availability, and dedication to service. Their commitment is recognized, and the HUC community is urged to offer them support and prayers as they assume their new roles.

In addition, the university bids farewell to Rev. Dr. Johny Thachuparamban, CMI, who resigned from the position of Dean of the Jesuit School of Theology on additional responsibilities as the CMI’s Regional Superior of East Africa. The Board of Trustees and the HUC Council express sincere gratitude for his past contributions and acknowledge his continued valuable service as a lecturer at HUC.

Furthermore, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Foro, SJ, who served as the Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs, will be taking on the role of the next Rector of the Hekima Jesuit Community. The university acknowledges his selfless service, excellence, maturity, and commitment to the Society of Jesus.

As Hekima University College undergoes these leadership changes, the entire community is encouraged to rally behind the new appointees and confirmed officials as they strive to move the institution from better to best.
